~OUR HISTORY~
Since 1986 the Central Food Bank has assisted Central families in need. The founders of the food bank were Bill Westbrook, Doug Welborn, Dennis Lewis, and many volunteers.
With donations from the Central community the food bank operated out of a small room of the Central Fire Station on Sullivan Road. The Central food bank would not even exist without the hard work and dedication of two kind-hearted volunteers, Pete and Anna Marie Grissom who dedicated their lives to running the food bank since its conception in 1986. In the early years, donations were few and far between with non -perishable food coming in from a few donation barrels located in Central’s Winn Dixie and a few churches.
~PASSING THE TORCH~
In late June of 2015, Mr. Grissom became ill and Michelle Lewis and Kevin Keithly were asked to help his wife continue the much needed work of the food bank. After Mr. Grissom's passing in July of 2015, Mrs. Grissom was unable to continue to take care of the day to day running of the food bank. She asked Michelle and Kevin to take it over. Without hesitation they agreed to this enormous task.
Michelle and Kevin moved the food bank from the Grissom's to Hooper Road in November of 2015. Because of the growth of the food bank, it was relocated again to its current location on Sullivan Road in October of 2017.
