Since 1986 the Central Food Bank has assisted Central families in need. The founders of the food bank were Bill Westbrook, Doug Welborn, Dennis Lewis, and many volunteers.
With donations from the community the food bank operated out of a small room of the Central Fire Station on Sullivan Road. The food bank would not even exist without the hard work and dedication of two kind-hearted volunteers, Pete and Anna Marie Grissom who dedicated their lives to running the food bank since its conception in 1989. In the early years, donations were few and far between with non -perishable food coming in from a few donation barrels located in Central’s Winn Dixie and a few churches.
